During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Riley Green revealed that the very first song he ever wrote was called “Escalade,” and it was inspired by learning guitar from his grandfather. “It was about getting an Escalade,” Green said with a laugh, before disclosing, “It had a rap part in it.” Though far from country, this early attempt sparked Green’s passion for songwriting, which deepened after his first trip to Nashville, where the future country star said he experienced an inspirational writers’ round at Tootsie’s, which caused him to embrace storytelling rooted in his upbringing and family values. In addition to the interview, Green also performed a stirring rendition of “Make It Rain,” from the new deluxe edition of his 2024 album, Don’t Mind If I Do. He also promoted his sold-out U.K. leg of his Damn Country Music Tour, which kicks off on Wednesday (September 10) in London. (Holler)
