With just a few weeks until the 17th Annual Buck Creek St. Jude Trail Ride, plans are coming together for one of the best weekends in West Tennessee on September 24-27, 2015.  The annual event offers three full days of trail riding and entertainment at 95 Weaver Road, Alamo, TN.

New events and activities have been added this year.  Starting on Thursday, September 24, at 4:00 pm, everyone will join on horseback and the hay wagon for the “kick-off” parade into Alamo Court Square, then on to Alamo Nursing Home to visit with the residents.  Back at campsite, Matt Boone and his band will perform at 7:00 pm.  Vendors will be arriving with all kinds of food and drink for the weekend.

Start Friday by enjoying the Cast Iron Cook-off contest with four delicious categories:  meat, vegetable, dessert, and stew/soup variety.  Chefs will cook on site and judging will begin at 6:00 pm.  Friday afternoon is a “kid’s world” with organized games for all ages.  Jackson Nance and his band will perform at 7:00 pm and Bobby Marquez at 9:00 pm.

Saturday morning the main trail ride will leave campsite promptly at 9:00 am and make a large loop through the beautiful Crockett County countryside.  We expect hundreds of horseback riders, teams pulling wagons, and hay wagons to join the ride, with security provided by Crockett County Sheriff’s Department.  After arriving back at camp, the “Special St. Jude Kids” will tell about their experiences with life and St. Jude.  Then the auction begins at 1:30 pm, followed by an optional afternoon ride, horse costume contest, and kid’s games.  Bobby Marquez will start Saturday night’s entertainment at 7:00 pm, opening for country artist Daryl Singletary. Sunday morning, Cowboy Church starts at 9:00 am, followed by an afternoon ride leaving at 1:00 pm.

The Crockett County Amateur Radio Society will be on hand at the gate with a schedule of all events. Entry fee for the entire weekend is $20.00 for everyone 13 years and over, $5.00 for 12 years and under.  For those individuals who collect donations of $100.00 for St. Jude, and for an immediate families donating $200.00, turn in your donations at the registration tent and get your entry fee refunded.

Last year, Buck Creek St. Jude Trail Ride collected over $91,000 in donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, with over $406,810.00 sent in the past 16 years.  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The hospital’s research has helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancer from less than 20 percent, when the institution opened, to almost 80 percent today. It is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children, and no family ever pays St. Jude for care.
